Supporting Entain / TAB on Their ISO 45001 Journey
Entain, a global sports betting, gaming, and entertainment company, partnered with the New Zealand TAB to form a 25-year strategic alliance.
As a dynamic and high-profile organisation, Entain sought to elevate its health and safety standards to align with ISO 45001, ensuring a proactive and comprehensive approach to risk management across its operations in New Zealand.
In 2023, Advanced Safety was engaged to conduct a Compliance Compass deep dive assessment for TAB/Entain. This assessment served as the foundation for identifying improvement opportunities and enhancing their health and safety systems.
The Challenges
The key challenges in this project included:
Providing a lead role while the organisation sought a national health and safety manager.
Aligning the organisation’s health and safety system with ISO 45001 standards.
Refreshing and optimising the health and safety committee and representative structures to ensure meaningful engagement.
Ensuring Officers understood and fulfilled their due diligence obligations as part of the broader governance framework.
Identifying key stakeholders and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Balancing the implementation of a robust system with the operational demands of a fast-paced and evolving business.

System Development and Customisation:
Working with the existing in-house H&S team of three, Advanced Safety developed a customised health and safety management system that addressed Entain’s specific needs and risk profile.
Committee and Representative Structure Refresh: The existing health and safety committee and representative framework were revitalised to enhance effectiveness and engagement. New roles and responsibilities were defined, fostering active participation across all levels of the organisation.
Officer Engagement and Training: Comprehensive duty holder training sessions were conducted to ensure senior leaders understood their obligations and actively supported the system’s implementation.
Stakeholder Identification and Collaboration: Key stakeholders were identified, and collaboration strategies were established to ensure integration of health and safety practices across departments and functions.
Implementation Support: Advanced Safety guided the organisation through the rollout process, providing hands-on assistance to embed the new system into day-to-day operations.
